Sandy Hook: A Parent’s Perspective
Michele Gay and Alissa Parker tell their personal stories and recount the lessons they learned on December 14, 2012, and in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook School tragedy. They share the inspiring way they have chosen to help school communities in honor of Michele's daughter Josephine and Alissa's daughter Emily, along with the memory of the other 18 children and six teachers lost on December 14, 2012. They bring the collective perspectives of a mother of a special-needs child and a former elementary school teacher which provides unique insights and inspiration for parents, administrators, school staff, emergency responders and community members who strive to make their schools safer.
In addition to their keynote address, they will be offering breakout sessions throughout the conference. Their personal stories are very powerful. You won't want to miss their general session!
Bridges Out of Poverty
Terie Dreussi-Smith is the co-author of Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals with Ruby K. Payne and Phil DeVol. Terie will share how communities can take steps in understanding the impact that poverty has on their most vulnerable families. Reducing the social costs of poverty, strengthening the workforce, and building a more prosperous and sustainable community are goals on which most communities agree. Bridges brings people from all sectors and economic classes together to improve job retention rates, build resources, improve outcomes, and support those who are moving out of poverty.
In breakout sessions, Terie will provide more in-depth personalized training and ideas for building bridges out of poverty in your community.
